Are HankoSign signatures legally binding?+
Yes. Every signature meets the requirements of the federal ESIGN Act and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA), adopted in 49 states and D.C. — including intent to sign, consent to do business electronically, and a retained, tamper-evident record. Each completed envelope ships with a Certificate of Completion you can produce in a dispute.
Do signers need an account?+
No. Signers receive a unique, secure link by email and can sign from any browser — no account, download, or app required.
What can I upload, and how big?+
PDFs and Word (.docx) files, up to 25MB each. Word documents are converted to PDF automatically and signed exactly like a native PDF. You can combine several documents into a single envelope and place fields across all of them.
How do I know a document wasn't altered?+
Every signed PDF is PKCS#7 signed and DocMDP-certified, so any change after signing is detectable in Adobe Acrobat. The tamper-evident audit trail records every view, consent, and signature with a timestamp.
How do I know when a document was signed?+
Every signed PDF embeds an RFC 3161 timestamp from an independent trusted timestamp authority, certifying the moment of signing. Adobe Acrobat shows that time as trusted — the signing date isn't just our server clock.
Can I sign on my phone?+
Yes. Sending and signing work on any modern phone, tablet, or computer — there's no app to install.
Can I sign in person, not just online?+
Yes. Add an in-person signer for someone at your desk or counter — they sign right on your device, and you hand it back to them when they're done. No email round-trip needed for that signer.
Can I get paid when someone signs?+
Yes, on Professional plans and above. Connect your own Stripe account, and after your signer completes the envelope they're offered a secure checkout — for invoices, deposits, or fees. Money goes straight to your account; HankoSign never touches funds, and payment never blocks or delays the signature.
